Nuffield Research Placements offer students in Year 12 (aged 17-18) the opportunity to work alongside scientists, engineers, mathematicians and technologists for four to six weeks of their summer holiday.
Students work on a specific project and at the end produce a report and attend a Celebration Event. Most students also go on to achieve a Gold CREST Award for their work.
STEMPOINT East act as regional co-ordinators for ten counties plus Greater London, working with local organisations and companies to provide >200 high-quality summer placements that offer students hands-on experience to give them a flying start to their career.
Students are carefully matched on academic criteria and their subject interest and STEMPOINT East support both the students and their supervisors throughout the process. Students from low income backgrounds and those who will be the first in their family to go to university are prioritised.
Applications are now open and will close at the end of March. Students are then matched to projects and notified whether they have been successful by the end of June, with placements held between July and August each year.
The scheme is highly regarded by universities and companies, a must for students interested in STEM careers, and develops key employability skills.
